I have moments of clarity
In which I see more
Than is possible to retain.
I perceive life
Twisting away
Like smoke from embers
Fires, banked
Glowing in memory.
My thoughts spin away
As sparks flee upward
Far into nights
Turned on their end
Ebbing into space
Merging with planets and stars
Twinkling and shining
Like celestial exclamations
Poetry of light and grace.
I wonder what returns
From tidal pools of cosmic light.
What splashes us
Whetting imagination and appetite?
So much more, I suspect
Than the meager bread
I have cast upon these waters.
